Jordan maintained its three seats in the elections of the Arab Publishers Union Council, which were held on Monday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Publisher Ahmad Al-Yazouri of Al-Yazouri Publishing and Distribution House won the position of Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Publishers Union, while publisher Salah Al-Talawi of Al-Ayyam Publishing and Distribution House secured a council seat in elections contested by 29 candidates from 11 Arab countries competing for 16 seats.
Publisher Jaafar Mahmoud Haif also retained his seat on the Arab Publishers Union Council for the current term as a representative of the Jordanian Publishers Association, bringing the total number of Jordanian representatives on the council to three members, the same as in the previous term.
The President of the Jordanian Publishers Association and Director of the Amman International Book Fair, Jabr Abu Fares, said that retaining these seats represents an achievement for Jordanian publishers, who form a key pillar of the publishing industry across the Arab world through their active participation in Arab book fairs. He added that this success comes amid the challenges faced by the publishing sector in recent years.
Abu Fares also praised the spirit of fraternity that prevailed among Arab publishers during the meetings of the Arab Publishers Union’s General Assembly, noting the strong interaction between Jordanian publishers and their Arab counterparts in pursuit of advancing the book industry.
It is worth noting that the Arab Publishers Union Council elections were held on the sidelines of the 57th Cairo International Book Fair 2026, currently taking place in the Egyptian capital, with the participation of 25 Jordanian publishing houses.
