Acting Director General of the National Library Department, Orouba Al-Shamayleh, met today with the President of the Jordanian Publishers Union and Director of the Amman International Book Fair, Jaber Abu Fares, to discuss prospects for cooperation between the National Library and the Jordanian Publishers Union.
During the meeting, which took place at the National Library, Al-Shamayleh expressed her appreciation for the Union’s efforts in organizing the Amman International Book Fair annually, which sees the participation of local and Arab publishing houses, along with the consistent presence of several national institutions.
She stressed that the National Library is committed to facilitating certain procedures for Jordanian publishers, including the issuance of deposit numbers in record time, especially in light of the publishers’ continuous activities and participation in local and Arab book fairs. She noted that the library has issued deposit numbers for over 3,000 books so far this year.
For his part, Abu Fares emphasized the important role played by the National Library Department, whether in issuing deposit numbers, through the Copyright Protection Office, or by hosting various cultural events. He called for facilitating the procedures for obtaining deposit numbers, whether in person or electronically.
During the meeting—which was also attended by publishers Jaafar Al-Aqili and Sameer Al-Awawneh, members of the Union’s administrative board—Abu Fares stated that the National Library is a key partner in the publishing industry in Jordan and is one of the most important national institutions providing quality services and engaging with all sectors.
He also highlighted the efforts of Jordanian publishers and their consistent participation in most Arab book fairs, where their presence has been crowned with awards in several Arab countries.
