Amman, September 1 (Petra) - Under the royal patronage, the activities of the 20th Amman International Book Fair will be launched on September 23, which is organized by the Jordanian Publishers Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Greater Amman Municipality as part of the Kingdom's celebrations of the centenary of the establishment of the Jordanian state.
360 local, Arab and international publishing houses from 20 countries will participate in the exhibition, which will continue until the second of next October at the Amman International Motors Hall - Airport Road, and they are Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Oman. , Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Turkey, America, Canada, Britain, India, Italy and China.
Within the activities of the exhibition, for which the Centennial logo was adopted as an official slogan, a diverse cultural program will celebrate the centenary of the establishment of the Jordanian state, including: poetry evenings, short stories and youth activities, in addition to special seminars on the reality of culture and media in Jordan during a hundred years, and the challenges facing industry makers. Publishing and its future, and the role of literary prizes in revitalizing the publishing movement. Pioneers in the publishing sector will also be honored.
The exhibition celebrates the late Jordanian poet Mustafa Wahbi al-Tal, "Arar", who was chosen as the personality of the cultural exhibition for the year 2021, where a special symposium will be held with the participation of a number of writers highlighting the poet's role in enriching the poetic movement.
The exhibition, which preserved the slogan “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine” for this session as in previous sessions, also devoted another symposium within its cultural program on “Jerusalem in Dramatic Documentation” to confirm the position of Jordan, the leadership and the people, in rejecting the schemes that target the Arabism of Jerusalem and the Hashemite guardianship.
President of the Publishers Association and Director of the Fair, Jaber Abu Fares, expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II for his continuous high sponsorship of the Amman International Book Fair, indicating that this high sponsorship effectively contributed to the continuation and sustainability of the exhibition until it became a prominent Jordanian cultural event on the map of Arab exhibitions. It is an important meeting point for the publishing industry in the Arab world. He told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) today, Wednesday, that this year's exhibition session is distinguished by a unique feature, as it will be within the general framework of celebrating the centenary, accompanied by a cultural program in line with the national plan to celebrate this great occasion, pointing to the importance of this station in drawing inspiration from the bright history of Jordan, and looking towards Forward to a bright future to achieve more progress and prosperity in the bicentennial.
And Abu Fares, that the exhibition, which was stopped last year as a result of the conditions of the Corona virus pandemic, constitutes an appropriate opportunity to inform the public about the latest publications of local and Arab publishing houses in various fields of science and knowledge, and it is also an important window for the Jordanian publisher and author, to highlight their unique contributions that laid the first building block. for the publishing industry during the first centenary.
He praised the efforts of the exhibition’s Supreme Advisory Committee, which includes the ministries of: Culture, Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to the Greater Amman Municipality and the Publishers Association, noting that it has worked over the past years in a connected, institutional manner - and still is - in order to advance this cultural act. important national at the local and Arab levels.
In turn, the head of the exhibition's media committee, Ghassan Hussein, said that the committee, in cooperation with the other exhibition committees and all partners, has developed an integrated plan to promote the exhibition through local and Arab media, and through the union's social media sites. He added that the features of the plan also include promoting the exhibition by publishing advertisements in Streets of the capital, distributing flyers and posters to schools and universities, in addition to preparing a brochure for the cultural program that will be distributed during the exhibition with a map showing the locations of publishing houses in the exhibition to facilitate visitors.
Hussein indicated that the committee took upon itself to open up to all media outlets by preparing a daily comprehensive media message, indicating that it addressed national and educational institutions to interact with the exhibition, elevate it to the ranks of international exhibitions, and provide its libraries with publications from national publishing houses.
It is noteworthy that the Amman International Book Fair has been held since 2016 in a fixed place, and on a specific date, which is the end of September of each year, and Palestine was the guest of honor for the exhibition, in addition to: the Emirates, Egypt, and Tunisia.
Through the exhibition's cultural personality, the exhibition honored a number of writers such as: the late historian Raouf Abu Jaber, the writer Dr. Ibrahim Al-Saafin, the novelist Samiha Khreis, and the late poet Amjad Nasser.
